Our July updates were driven by user feedback on both our Family Tree and GEDCOM import features. Your targeted feedback helped us address key shortfalls in our GEDCOM import functionality, while requests for more comprehensive family trees guided our improvements to the Family Tree. These enhancements also serve as the foundation for exciting new features planned for the rest of the summer. We continue to enhance system performance and stability to provide a solid platform for the additional AI integrations coming later this summer.

The Family Tree on both the Project and Individual detail screens now displays in a top-to-bottom orientation, grouping families more effectively than before. We also added logic to load complete families by using the individuals in the project or timeline as starting points and tracing their family connections, even when those family members are not part of the original project or timeline.

In the coming months, we will be adding more editable features and enhancing integration with our AI results to enable you to add and update your family tree quickly.

We received specific actionable feedback on our GEDCOM import feature and continued to address issues we found in the ~1 million-entry GEDCOM file. The results are a significant improvement. Our improved GEDCOM import now includes:

  • Family tree tracing during import: The system now traces families within the specified timeframe. Prior versions would take the first ~150 individuals and ensure they had parent/child connections. The new version traces complete families to provide better contexts for all imported individuals.

  • Significantly more sources and full-text elements: The prior version would sometimes cut off full-text data. We now incorporate logic into our cleanup routine to standardize the layout of these fields across various sources.

  • More family events with maintained connections: The system now preserves family connections to events like marriages and censuses.

We have also provided a new help video for working with GEDCOM imports.
